Josef Nassy 1944

Josef Nassy was an anamzing black, Jewish artist who married a woman from Belgium. He was collected by the Nazi's as an American Ex-patriot and his live was spared. But he was placed in a concentration camp where he recorded the concentration camp life and people over a period of 3 years during his interment. After WWII Nassy stayed on an extra year at Laufen just to keep his entire collection of artwork together. Only a few paintings of Josef Nassy's are in priviate hands - and those were all given away before he left Laufen in 1945. The two paintings I have were gifts to a clergy who helped Nassy as he waited that extra year to keep this artistic record of his life and those with him.
